Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

At The Motiv8 School, we are proud to offer our learners the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). This nationally recognised programme helps young people develop confidence, resilience, independence and essential life skills through adventure, challenge and community participation.

The DofE award is a powerful part of our curriculum, supporting personal development, teamwork and emotional well-being. It enables our learners to experience success beyond the classroom and gain an achievement that is highly valued by colleges, employers and apprenticeship providers.

What the Award Involves

Learners take part in four key sections:

– Volunteering – giving back to the community and supporting others
– Physical – developing fitness, teamwork and motivation
– Skills – learning a new skill or building on existing strengths
– Expedition – planning, training for and completing an outdoor journey as a team

Each element encourages perseverance, leadership, communication and self-belief.

How We Support Our Learners

Our DofE programme is adapted to meet the needs of our learners, providing:

– Supportive, structured guidance and planning
– Training in navigation, safety and outdoor skills
– Safe and supervised practice and qualifying expeditions
– Encouragement to build confidence and independence at a pace that suits each student

We work closely with families and the DofE organisation to ensure every pupil has the right support to take part and succeed.

Why It Matters

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award helps our learners to:

– Build resilience and determination
– Develop teamwork and problem-solving abilities
– Gain real-life experiences and outdoor skills
– Enhance future college, training and job applications
– Celebrate achievement and personal growth

We believe every young person deserves opportunities to shine — and the DofE award provides a fantastic platform for our pupils to challenge themselves, develop character and enjoy new experiences.
