Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

At The Motiv8 School, we believe that high-quality Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is an essential part of preparing our learners for adulthood. Our RSE curriculum helps pupils develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to build healthy relationships, make informed choices, and manage their wellbeing and sexual health responsibly.

RSE at The Motiv8 School is delivered as part of our wider PSHE and safeguarding curriculum, and is tailored to the needs of our Key Stage 4 learners. Lessons are delivered sensitively, inclusively and in an age-appropriate way, reflecting the needs and experiences of our pupils, many of whom may require additional support.

What our RSE curriculum covers

Our programme helps learners to:

Understand consent, respectful behaviour and healthy relationships

Develop strong communication and decision-making skills

Recognise the signs of unhealthy or unsafe relationships

Build self-esteem and emotional resilience

Understand sexual health, contraception, STIs and pregnancy options

Explore topics such as sexual orientation, gender identity and diversity

Stay safe online and understand risks such as sexting and online grooming

Access support, advice and health services safely and appropriately

We help students recognise peer pressure, manage emotions, and understand the legal and emotional consequences of sexual behaviour, both online and offline.

How RSE is delivered

Taught by trained staff in a safe, supportive environment

Lessons adapted to meet the needs of our SEND learners

Interactive, discussion-based and reflective learning approaches

Respectful of cultural, religious and personal beliefs

Inclusive of LGBTQ+ pupils and families

Opportunities to involve external professionals (e.g. health services)

Parents and carers are informed about the content of the curriculum, and have the right to request withdrawal from non-statutory sex education content. We welcome parental partnership and open communication.

Safeguarding and pupil wellbeing

Our classrooms are safe, respectful spaces.
Staff are trained to respond appropriately to disclosures and safeguarding concerns, following our school policies. Students are encouraged to speak openly without judgement, and are also taught where and how to seek support, including confidential health services where appropriate.

A curriculum built for today’s world

Our RSE programme aligns fully with Department for Education statutory guidance (2020) and reflects the real-life challenges young people face. We promote respect, equality, inclusion and personal responsibility, helping learners move confidently into adulthood equipped with the knowledge and values they need to thrive.
