Attendance
Introduction
The Motiv8 School is committed to providing a full and effective educational experience for all pupils. We believe that regular and punctual attendance is essential for students to make progress, gain qualifications, and prepare for their future careers.
As a specialist independent school, we actively promote and encourage 100% attendance for all our pupils. We recognise that parents/carers play a vital role in ensuring their child attends regularly and punctually, and we strive to maintain strong home-school communication regarding attendance.
Morning registration takes place between 9am – 9.15am, if your child arrives within this time they will be marked as attended and not late, if they arrive after this time, between 9.15am – 9.30am they will be marked as attended but late for registration. Attendance marked after 9.30am will be considered as a persistent lateness and this will be closely monitored, and we would expect that all learners arrive on time for registration
Afternoon registration takes place at 1.15pm, and if your child arrives within this time they will be marked as attended and not late, if they arrive after this time, between 1.20pm – 1.25pm they will be marked as attended but late for registration; similarly afternoon lateness will be regarded in the same way as morning lateness.
Persistent latenes is monitored by The Motiv8 School and may result in formal intervention. Patterns of late arrival will be closely monitored and contact will be made with parents/carers in relation to the reasons for persistent lateness,
Where attendance concerns arise, we work in close partnership with parents/carers to identify and resolve any barriers to attendance. Every effort will be made to provide the necessary support to ensure all pupils can engage fully with their education.
Absences will only be classified as authorised in the following circumstances:
- Genuine illness
- Unavoidable medical or dental appointments (evidence may be required)
- Religious observance
- Exceptional circumstances (e.g., bereavement or significant family events)
- Seeing a parent on leave from the armed forces
- External examinations
The following reasons will not be considered valid for authorised absence:
- Holidays during term time (unless approved in exceptional circumstances)
- Absences without valid explanation from parents/carers
- Persistent lateness resulting in missed lessons
- Parents/carers must inform the school before 9:15 AM if their child is absent.
- Absences should be reported via email to headteacher@themotiv8school.co.uk or by phone at 0151 329 0030.
- If a pupil is absent for more than three consecutive days, the school may request medical evidence.
- If no notification is received, the school will attempt to contact parents/carers directly.
Where your child does not arrive to school, we will contact you before 10.30am to determine the reason for your child’s absence
Absences During Term Time
- A formal request must be submitted in advance for any planned absence.
- The school will only authorise leave in exceptional circumstances.
- If a request is denied but the child is still taken out of school, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.
- Unauthorised absences may negatively affect a child’s academic progress and assessment outcomes.
- The school will discuss concerns with families if persistent unauthorised absences occur.
All absences and patterns of lateness are closely monitored. A staged response is used to support improvement and ensure accountability (See appendix)
In line with statutory safeguarding responsibilities, prolonged or unexplained absences may trigger concerns that a pupil is at risk of becoming a Child Missing in Education. The school will follow its Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy in such cases, and referrals will be made to the local authority as appropriate.
