Who We Support

The Motiv8 School specialises in providing high-quality, bespoke education for learners aged 14-16 who may not have thrived in mainstream settings. We welcome learners with a wide range of additional needs, including those with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and work in partnership with local authorities, families, and referring professionals to ensure every young person receives the support they need.

Admissions Criteria

We consider admissions based on the following:

  • A formal referral from a local authority, school, professional, or parent/carer.
  • An existing EHCP, or the learner being in the process of EHCP assessment.
  • The learner is aged 14-16, with flexibility considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Our ability to meet the learner’s needs in line with their EHCP or equivalent documentation.

Admissions Process

Applications to The Motiv8 School must be made via a formal referral from the Local Authority, current school, an educational psychologist, or another relevant professional. Parents/carers may also submit an application directly, though it must be supported by the child’s EHCP, current school or local authority. Funding must also be agreed by the local authority.

The Motiv8 school will review the EHCP, medical reports, and other supporting documents to assess the learner’s specific needs and whether we can meet those needs.

The Motiv8 school will arrange a meeting with the learner’s parents/carers to discuss the learner’s needs, explain the school’s offerings, and assess compatibility with the school’s resources and environment.

Parents/carers, and the learner will be invited to visit The Motiv8 School to explore the facilities and meet key staff. This visit may include an informal assessment of the learner’s needs by school specialists.

In some cases, The Motiv8 school may offer a trial placement (typically 1–2 weeks) to assess how well the learner adjusts to the school environment before making a final decision.

A formal decision will be made by the school’s admissions panel, and parents will be notified in writing. If the application is successful, formal arrangements for enrolment will be discussed.

Following enrolment, all learners take part in a variety of baseline assessments to help us understand their:

  • Academic ability (Maths, English, and reading age using Toe to Toe and other tools)
  • Learning style and strengths
  • Social, emotional and behavioural needs
  • Sensory and physical needs
  • Required classroom support and adjustments

Based on the assessment, we create a personalised IEP which outlines the learner’s short- and long-term goals, support strategies, and monitoring processes. Progress is reviewed termly and shared with learners and parents/carers.
